It’s like when you are inside
the box building it up you don’t know how the box as a whole looks like from
outside. So the persons who are creatively involve do think while making the
movie as the best thing ever been created. It’s the people who are not creatively
attached to that movie provide the real feedback. This is the reason many production
houses shows their first cut of the movies to selected audience to do a reality
check about their movie. I believe by the time final cut of that movie is made
all persons who are creatively involved in that movie like Directors,
Producers, Actors, Writers etc. will know whether the movie came out good, ok
or crap. It’s very rare cases when they don’t know what they made is a crap
one. So even if they realize the movie came out bad still they will try to
release that movie because of some or all of the below listed reasons
1. The movie found distributor(s) – Yes, everyone involved in making that bad movie knows it’s really bad but somehow distributor wants to release it, so any producer will not say no to this kind of offer of making some money.
2. Stakeholder’s money – This is in line to point number 1 above. When the money is already invested while making the movie, by releasing it will at least help in recovering some, if not all. So if the intention of making a good movie turned out as a bad end product, still by releasing it may help in recover some or all the stakeholders invested amount.
3. Want to lose money – This do sometime happen in Indian cinema, although not sure about any other countries cinemas. If any person had lots of money (say black money) and that person will invest it in any kind of movie (good or bad does not matter). May put some extra money to distribute that too (Refer point one and two here). Now if somehow movie works well then the whole black money will turned to white and if the movie loses money they can show this as loss of business in their accounting book to claim some tax benefits.
4. Exposure – Suppose you are a first time director and while making your first movie you realize it is turning out bad and sure the end result will be a crappy movie. Still if you are able to release that movie then you can show that movie to your profile as experience in movie making irrespective of how Audience or critics reacts to that movie. Same logic applicable for actors, writers, produces etc.
5. Peer Pressure – This is the cause of many evil in any industry so also for this movie business too. This works like miracle in terms of releasing all bad movies. So how this work here? Only in this fashion, when someone’s super bad movie got a release why not my bad movie can be released.
6. Probability or Hope of the Miracle – If you just reverse this question it will become, why audience appreciate many of the crappy movies when all the persons involved in that movie are certain that this is going to be the worst movie of there carrier? That bad movie still worked like miracle at box office. Yes, the unpredictability in movie business is the key to release each and every movie with a hope that it will be appreciated well by the audience. This is true because like food every generation and every people has its own unique taste of movie too. So if I hate some movie that does not mean you will also hate that movie. If somehow number of people who loved that movie are more than number of people who hate that movie, then that movie will no longer called as bad movie.
E.g. – In the year 1989, a movie named Tridev been made, after seeing the final cut everyone involved in the movie including producers and actors knows this is a bad movie, still that movie found distributor and it got released. After release, not only it became one of the biggest hit of that year in Bollywood but also received couple of awards too. There are many such examples like this, so the miracle caused by audience to turn a crappy movie to Hit, Super Hit, Classic or Cult Classic is a kind of hope which cause any and every movie got released in the market.
7. History is in favor – While releasing a bad movie if someone knows history is in their favor then anyone will definitely try to use that favor while creating any movie. Sample these thoughts while creating or after creating any bad movie.
Similar bad movie of similar theme worked in past why not try to make it again. History shows summer or festival release guaranteed success at box office then any kind of movie been made and released during that time frame may work. If historically just inclusion of some actor’s irrespective good or bad movie worked well in box office then why put extra effort to make that movie good when that actor is in that movie. If aggressive promotion give good openings in past irrespective of the movie, actors, directors or writers combination then it’s best to focus on promotion rather than taking effort in making good movie. These are some of the historical factors or logic's do help in releasing bad movies to audience.

8. Why to Waste Hard work –
As the name suggests, it’s the human tendency to utilize the hard work even if
it occurred for all the wrong reasons. This tendency want directors, actors or
anyone involved in the movie to release this up. If you are a software professional
you can relate to this pain. People in software industry strive for go-live
even that means releasing an application, product or project with full of bugs.
This whole concept hold true in movie industry too.
As a conclusion, everyone who is involved in making that bad movie knows in there heart it’s going to be a bad movie (They may or may not speak about it). Still that movie got released only based on Audience in mind. So the day all the audience stop appreciating any kind of crappy movies will be the day when those kind of movies will be stopped being made or getting released, but seeing the current trend someday reverse may also become true (Only crappy movies are made, no good movies). I can only hope passion of filmmakers to create good movie never dies so that we do receive brilliance's along with craps.
